For our english speking visitors Welcome to our site!
We are 9 guys getting together every month and having a good
time
Unfortunlately (for you) our site is entirely in Norwegian, except for this
short version pages. At least for the time being...
This is a short explaination of who we are, in case we should leave some traces
on our abroad travels.
Well, it started about 1990, at least officially, when some male colleagues at work, plus a couple of husbands of female colleagues/friends of us decided to start a club. The intentions of the club was to get together once a month, have something to eat, have a few beers - or perhaps a few more - and solve some world problems. Or in other words: have a break in the daily stress.
Four of us started up, asked two more, and suddenly we had our own club! We made some rules, gave ourselves member numbers (as we still use for mention each other in emails..) and decided that the last Thursday each month was to be the regular meeting evening. The monthly host goes from member #1 and forwards, so everyone knows who's the next host. The host makes the food at home, or takes us out for eating at a restaurant or whatever he decides.
In addition, we try to have some activity on the meeting, such as darts, bowling and so on. In 1994 two of the members, #4 & 5, had their own sailboats and asked us if a weekend tour in August would be of interest. Great idea, the guys said, and we sailed down to the Swedish coast and had a great time. Since then it has been a tradition to go for a boat trip in September. In the last years we have also swithed between a boat trip and a weekend in a cottage near the Oslo Fjord, or a combination.
But since we have our long list of rules, we also needed a real
and official annual meeting. Since #2 isn't exactly a great fan of boat trips
because of his sea sickness, he came with the (for him) great ide of having
the annual meeting up in the mountains. This was accepted, and every year since,
we "accidently" happens to end up with renting a cottage very close
to an alpine center for a weekend in January....
Then it's time to review the rules, make some really decent food, and have a
few beers, a few beers more, a tiny glass of cognac and - well, - be boys on
tour.
After nearly 10 years of running the club we found out that
it was time to celebrate with an anniversary trip. We picked Dublin as destination,
and went for a 4 days trip in 2000. A great trip, with visiting an old small
village, a wine destillery, the Guinness brewery (of course..), and a few pub
visits...
We also expanded to 8 members in 1998 (despite the rules saying that the members
should be constant, 6 gentlemen. Rules can be changed..). By the way, we expanded
even more in 2006 and there is now 9 of us...
After this very succsessful celebration a new rule came up, deciding an anniversary trip every 5th year. In 2005 we went to the Spanish south coast, Manilva Beach between Malaga and Gibraltar. We rented a huge apartement with room for the whole bunch. This time we also rented a car and drove along each day. This was an extremely well planned trip, we had two activities each day, visiting an old village far away up in the mountains (Ronda), going for a catamarain sailboat trip, visiting Gibraltar (including the apes), a gocart race and much more. A planned simple lunch was every day transformed to a full round with starters, dinner and deserts, and every day ended with another full round with starters, dinner and desserts. I don't think we starved to death on this trip....
After this very nice trip (the best anniversary trip ever, for quoting Mr. Samaranch after the 1994 Lillehammer Winter olympics, some of the guys started thinking about our ages. We are born in the 50's and 60's, and not exactly too young any longer. "-Listen up, guys", the President said. "-If we should keep on with 5 years between our anniversary trips, we may not reach to many trips before ending in "the box", he said. He had a really good point, so we quicly decided to reduce to shorter intervals, every 3rd year. But for not doing this too fast, we will go for a 4 years interval first, then step down to 3 years. So in 2009, we are going for our 19 years anniversary trip, then in 2012, 2015 and so on.
The 2009 trip goes to Italy, on the north west coast. The details is not ready yet, so this article will be updated.
